Which Wich #15 of 51 - The Gyro
Tuesday
Jun 19, 2007
I’ve been blogging the whole Which Wich menu over at my personal blog for a while now. From now on I’ll be posting them here as well. For my previous WW posts, click HERE.

Seriously, Amy Mo (a friend of mine in the office) is starting to take this “arting” of my sandwich bags pretty seriously. She practically drew the whole freaking country of Greece on today’s bag. And look at the detail! I’m not sure if you can make it out, but that word written on the scroll that the Toga Dude is holding? Look closely.

It’s Greek for “sandwich.” Seriously.
How I had it: The standard issue Gyro comes with Gyro meat, Tzatziki, lettuce, tomato and onion. I had it on white bread and didn’t dress it up at all. It looked like this:

I also had: Veggies from home and a big glass of cold water.
How it was: The Gyro struck me as one of the neatest Wiches I’ve enjoyed. Neat as in clean. Very well put together. The bread was some of the freshest tasting I’ve had, but the overall taste of the Gyro was a tad bit on the bland side. A few suggestions that could really make it solid: 1)Feta cheese - A Gyro without feta is like a BLT without T. 2)More spice on the Gyro meat - The meat lacked a little in the flavor department. 3)Be liberal with the Tzatziki sauce - I didn’t have much on my Gyro, and I imagine a little more would have added quite a bit to the overall flavor of the Wich. If you guys really wanted to go nuts, you’d create some type of tabouli-esque relish to add to the standard issue Gyro.
I’ll be out of pocket tomorrow and Wednesday, so that will give you two strong days of voting on Thursdays Wich.
As for Thursday, what do you think? Should I have…
- The Tuna Melt
- The Turkey Reuben (kraut & 1000 island)
- The Bacon & Egg
- The Italian Beef (with giardiniera)
- The Myhami (ham & roast beef)
No more Fifth Quarter

Not cool. Not cool at all. chez bez has the scoop.
Here’s the deal: I didn’t eat there a lot, but when I did the food was good and the waitstaff was friendly. Not to mention that the place was kind of a Nashville institution…
“Plop, Plop, Plop.”

These words are from one of my daughter’s favorite bedtime stories. Whenever we are driving in the car and rain begins to hit the windshield, she’ll promptly announce them from her carseat with these same three words: “Plop, Plop, Plop.”
I can only image that she’s saying these words right now, because after a drought that has lasted several months, it’s finally begun to rain in Nashville.

Are we seeing the beginnings of a fire sale?
Look, I’m a fan, and I’d love to see the boys stay around for years and years to come, but part of me thinks that reaching that magic number of 14,000 in average game attendance is just not realistic. Let’s all be realists for a moment: As a good friend of mine just pointed out, we couldn’t hit that goal with Forsberg and Kariya on the ice and with the entire town talking about contending for the cup, so why do we think we can do it now? Do we need Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux to come out of retirement to don the blue and gold?
File this under “You can’t be serious.”

Yep, it seems like everyone’s favorite Tennessee Titan is at it again.
