Tennessee’s Largest Cities Rank High As Carbon Emitters
Thursday
May 29, 2008

According to a new Tennessean article, Tennessee’s four largest cities rank embarrassingly high as the nation’s worst carbon emitters. Largely due to recently developed urban sprawl and cheap electricity, Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga and Memphis are all guilty of too much emission.
Sadly, Nashville’s negative footprint is ranked sixth worst on the Brookings Institution’s list of carbon emitters. Nashville is ranked so high because of our reliance on personal vehicles rather than a standard mass transit.
So, let’s open this up, what are you doing to reduce carbon emissions in Nashville? What can we do as a community-wide effort?

The Day After Memorial Day Is Sunny As Can Be
Tuesday
May 27, 2008

Okay, let’s see about swapping yesterday’s Memorial Day weather for today’s. Or, better yet, let’s get those bosses to agree that we need today off as well.
Soggy cookouts & dripping wet dogs are what made my Memorial Day Monday. I think it’s illegal in 12 different states to cook your Memorial Day turkeydog using something other than an outdoor grill.
So, tell me about your day, how did you spend your rainy Memorial Day?
Sad News Today For Local Steven Curtis Chapman
Thursday
May 22, 2008
It’s a very sad day for the family of Steven Curtis Chapman, whose 5-year-old daughter was struck in the driveway of their home in Franklin on Wednesday.
Maria Sue Chapman was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital a little after 5pm yesterday, but the injures were too severe and she died. Maria was one of six children of Steven & Mary Beth Chapman.
Our thoughts go out to the family at this time.

Surviving the Day After Mother’s Day
Monday
May 12, 2008
This Monday is two parts really, surviving the week after Steeplechase & surviving the day after Mother’s Day.
Let’s start with the horse racing, many of you said you were not only attending but attending the before & after parties as well on Saturday, so it may be that you sorry lot didn’t even make it to a Mother’s Day lunch at Macaroni Grill.
And then there’s those of you who are either patting yourself on the back for a Mother’s Day well-received, or those that are fearful of calling the day after. It’s a delicate act, the day after Mother’s Day call, which, after today, I will be all the more familiar with.
So, tell me, which one were you this weekend?
Election Riffraff
Wednesday
May 7, 2008

Well, the results are in & Hillary managed to turn Indiana to her favor, while Obama danced for joy with the North Carolina turnout. But who still cares at this point?
Even Jon Stewart is on the brink of running off to Canada just to escape the endless election talks. But what about you, Nashville? Are you still putting your ear to the election ground? Still surfing the political pundits’ repartee?
Tell me, how important is the US presidential election to you right now, still months away from the real deal?
The 67th Iroquois Steeplechase Hits Nashville This Weekend
Tuesday
May 6, 2008
It wouldn’t be Mother’s Day weekend in Nashville without the Iroquois Steeplechase, now would it?
As the horse race turns the big 67 this year, the event is more popular than ever. The second Saturday of every May means only one thing for in-the-know Nashvillians, and that’s Steeplechase.
Held May 10 at Percy Warner Park, Steeplechase is basically seen as a rite of passage into springtime for local area residents.
A total of six races will be run Saturday, beginning at 1pm. The Iroquois will be the premiere event of the day, with a purse of $150K, and will end the day of racing. Good Night Shirt, last year’s winner, is looking to upset two time winner Sur La Tete once more.
So, how many times have you gone to Steeplechase? Any?
