Still Got Olympic Fever

So, I’ve been trying to research local adult swim & volleyball teams in my spare time, which isn’t much these days.  I’m a little guilty of being enraptured by the Olympic spirit & am ready to tackle any volleyballs that are heading towards me.

Funny thing is that all the adult swim teams in the area, like the two that I found, cost $50 to $65 per month.  Now all that is well & good if you’re not already paying around that much per month at your favorite YMCA, which don’t, by the by, have their own adult swim teams.  So that’s a no-go.

On to volleyball.  Now, I remember playing the game once or twice in middle school, so I’m obviously not a baller, but you would think there would be a place for a 6′1″ athletic girl on someone’s team.  A team that would be willing to be a bit on the patient side & offer some pointers or two.  Ummm, after checking out a ‘practice’ session at a local Y last night, apparently that’s going to be a hard thing to pull off since I felt like I was at a cut-throat match even as an onlooker.

I guess that means that it’s back to couch-sitting, TV-watching sports.  Well, at least football season is just about to flower, right?

So, have you been inspired by the Olympics in some way?  Maybe competitive chip eating?

Labor Day Plans?

labor-day.bmpWell, besides finally getting a good deal of steady rain so that this August will not go down in history as the driest we’ve ever seen, we also finally have a holiday coming up.

Labor Day is just around the corner & I’m trying to figure out what my Monday should be full of.  First off, I think a local pool should be involved and then maybe a picnic or two & maybe trying to find a new chocolatier since The Cocoa Tree in Franklin seems to be MIA.

What about you?  Cost of gas limiting your Labor Day plans?

OMG!  I think I just felt some sunshine!

Give a warm welcome to your new pal, Little Bit.  The pet of the week is a fine specimen of the short-haired calico kitty cat.

At just three-years-old, this little girl has plenty of playful fun & has the benefit of having been already potty trained and neutered!   Can’t you imagine how soft & comfy Little Bit would be on a rainy day like today?!

She’s just one little Nashville Humane visit away…!

So last night I headed down to the Nashville Humane Association on Oceola Ave to start my volunteer training.

First off, if you’ve never made it down to the new building, you’re in for quite a treat.  As you walk in, you will be impressed by the open architecture, as well as the lobby’s amazing, treed cat room with plenty of window-space to peer into the eyes of your new kitty; or step back a few paces and look into the eyes of your new best friend- your pick!

What was interesting to me about the shelter was the 17% adoption rate, which basically means about 17 in 100 visitors to the center end up adopting a kitten, cat, puppy or dog.

With the cost of each animal averaging around $350, and adoption rates between $40 & $160, I’ve decided we need to start adopting more furry friends, Nashville!  So, each week we’re going to support an animal of the week, that you should then fall in love with and provide a loving home.

What do ya say?

Btw- the cute guy up at the top is Bowe, check him out here!

Are You Scared Of Antioch?

So, I have a question I’d like to pose today.  Will so many businesses closing down & heading elsewhere due to crime & lack of interested shoppers, are you becoming fearful of the Antioch area?

It seems like every week there is at least one felony crime reported in the Antioch area of Nashville and the Hickory Hollow Mall is getting closer to a ghost town than a shopping center, with Dillards and Linens ‘N Things packing up shop.  Antioch housing costs are at an all-time low, while unemployment is way above the national average and so too the murder rate.

You tell me, if you have to head into Antioch, are you doing it full sunlight style?
