Yay! I’m finally back! I thought it might be a good idea to visit Austin, Texas for a spell, but I missed Nashville too much to eva leave again.
So, now that I’m back, I’m here to tell ya whatcha gotta do tonight. You need to head on down to Mercy Lounge for a cancer benefit show. The gig starts around 9pm & the minimum donation is $10 & you’ll feel good doing it, I know.
The band line-up is some folks called the Features, Ricky Young and The Slow Films, Cassino, Tommy & The Whale and Pico Vs. Island Trees. Not too shabby, eh?
See ya there.
Next Big Nashville!!!

You know what would be great? If someone could put together a 5 day showcase featuring 130+ of Nashville’s finest up-and-coming musical talents playing on 10 of the hottest stages in town and charge like a ridiculously low $30 to see all of the shows. Geez, that would be awesome. Yeah, they could get bands like The Features, The Clutters, Ghostfiner, The Gabe Dixon Band, The Silver Seas and How I Became The Bomb and they could book them in venues like Exit/In, The Basement and Mercy Lounge/Cannery Ballroom. Wouldn’t that be the coolest?
Oh wait… that’s exactly what Next Big Nashville (MySpace) is. Good. I’m glad to see someone is finally listening to my brilliant ideas.
NBN kicks off tomorrow evening at 7:30 and will run through Sunday, September 9! Check out the complete schedule HERE and buy your wristband tickets HERE.
I’m not sure if you know this, but…

…Nashville is kind of known for being a pretty good music town. Yeah, maybe you had heard but I wasn’t sure so I thought it was worth mentioning. Anyway, being fortunate enough to live here, I have the opportunity to feed my live music habit pretty hard over the next couple of months. Shows I’ll definitely be attending between now and the end of the year include, *but are not limited to:
- Modest Mouse w/ Band of Horses @ The Ryman - 8.22.07
- Ben Kweller @ Exit/In - 8.24.07
- Interpol @ The Ryman - 9.22.07
- Kings of Leon w/ Black Rebel Motorcycle Club @ The Ryman - 10.18.07
- Spoon @ Cannery Ballroom (Mercy Lounge) - 10.26.07
- Smashing Pumpkins @ The Ryman - 11.5.07
So far my wife is being very supportive. It absolutely helps that A) I’ve never had a stretch of shows like this in my life, B) I have a pretty big birthday (30) coming up in October and C) I’m a great husband and father (at least that’s what she tells me).
*God help me if Wilco, Arcade Fire or Ryan Adams decide to add a Nashville date this Fall. That conversation wouldn’t be pretty, but it’s not like I’d really have a choice, right? I’d have to go to them all. Seriously.
So what about you? Any good shows coming up that you’re really looking forward to?
