The 67th Iroquois Steeplechase Hits Nashville This Weekend
Tuesday
May 6, 2008
It wouldn’t be Mother’s Day weekend in Nashville without the Iroquois Steeplechase, now would it?
As the horse race turns the big 67 this year, the event is more popular than ever. The second Saturday of every May means only one thing for in-the-know Nashvillians, and that’s Steeplechase.
Held May 10 at Percy Warner Park, Steeplechase is basically seen as a rite of passage into springtime for local area residents.
A total of six races will be run Saturday, beginning at 1pm. The Iroquois will be the premiere event of the day, with a purse of $150K, and will end the day of racing. Good Night Shirt, last year’s winner, is looking to upset two time winner Sur La Tete once more.
So, how many times have you gone to Steeplechase? Any?

I’ve never been. But then again I’m a transplant to Nashville from New York City. I’ve heard about it every year but have not been inclined to attend.
